At what age can you do rhinoplasty?
Recently teens have been gaining interest in double eyelid surgery and rhinoplasty. There might be some differences between individuals, but generally growth of nasal bone stops at the age of 16 for females and 18 for males. However, if the target of the surgery is for aesthetic purposes, it is advised to do the surgery after you have reached adulthood with sufficient consultation, and if the goal of the surgery is functional improvement, it is advised to consult a plastic surgeon for the best time to do the surgery.
Synthetic material vs Autologous tissue!
Implants are required to add height to the nose! Rhinoplasty implants are divided to synthetic material and autologous tissue. Silicon and goretex are the most commonly used implant in synthetic material. Now, which one should you choose?
Goretex has a soft texture which gives natural result, however as time goes by the implant might adhere to the surrounding tissues, and height of the nose might change.
On the other hand, silicone results in smooth nose bridge. Silicone is a stable implant that does not change the nasal height over time, hence many prefer silicone over goretex.
Autologous tissue such as ear cartilage, septum cartilage, rib cartilage and dermal fat does not have rejection, thus infection does not occur. Even if infection occurs, treatment is fairly easy however, the amount that can be harvested are limited. Therefore, for a satisfying Korean rhinoplasty result, choosing the suitable implant according to the patient's nasal condition is a must!
Open vs Closed method?
Everyone's noses are different, thus surgery method will be applied differently. For those of you who have researched about Korean rhinoplasty, you will know that there are two methods, open and closed method.
Open method is applied if there is a need to change the structure of the nose. The incision area is on the columella, and allows better visualization that makes accurate implant placement. However many worry because of the visible scar, but worry not as scar will fade over time!
Incision on closed method is done inside the nose, as such scar will not be visible. However, gaining visualization is difficult, therefore this method is suitable only nasal height is added.
